Bluntleaf Milkweed (Asclepias amplexicaulis)

Bluntleaf Milkweed (Asclepias amplexicaulis)
This summer, a prairie specialist from the Topeka community who is a member of the Kansas Native Plant Society contacted me to share his enthusiasm with finding Bluntleaf Milkweed on the prairie.

According to the email, he rarely sees this plant on healthy established prairies, and finding it on ours was surprising, considering the abundance of non-native species.

This just confirmed what I have known all along - our urban prairie is indeed a rare gem.
